In downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Lou works tirelessly to build her beloved yet struggling French restaurant, Luella’s, into a success. She cheerfully balances her demanding business and even more demanding fiancé…until the morning she discovers him in the buff—with an intern.
Witty yet gruff British transplant Al is keeping himself employed and entertained by writing scathing reviews of local restaurants in the Milwaukee newspaper under a pseudonym. When an anonymous tip sends him to Luella’s, little does he know he’s arrived on the worst day of the chef’s life. The review practically writes itself: underdone fish, scorched sauce, distracted service—he unleashes his worst.
The day that Al’s mean-spirited review of Luella’s runs, the two cross paths in a pub: Lou drowning her sorrows, and Al celebrating his latest publication. As they chat, Al playfully challenges Lou to show him the best of Milwaukee and she’s game—but only if they never discuss work, which Al readily agrees to. As they explore the city’s local delicacies and their mutual attraction, Lou’s restaurant faces closure, while Al’s column gains popularity. It’s only a matter of time before the two fall in love…but when the truth comes out, can Lou overlook the past to chase her future?
Set in the lovely, quirky heart of Wisconsin, THE COINCIDENCE OF COCONUT CAKE is a charming love story of misunderstandings, mistaken identity, and the power of food to bring two people together.
Shaun Harris is a crime writer, and his debut novel, The Hemingway Thief, will be coming out in August of 2016 through Seventh Street Books. I live in Wisconsin with my wife, two kids, and a dog that largely ignores me.

In 1922 Ernest Hemingway asked his young wife, Hadley, to pack up every last scrap of his work into a single suitcase and join him in Switzerland. While Hadley waited for her train in the Gare de Lyon the suitcase containing a year’s worth of Hemingway stories vanished, never to be seen again. Until now.
Henry “Coop” Cooper is having a hard time writing his new novel between sipping rum and lounging on a Baja beach with hotel owner Grady Doyle. When Grady tries to save a drunk from two thugs, Coop tags along for the sake of a good story. The drunk is Ebbie Milch, a small time thief on the run in Mexico because he has stolen the never-before-seen first draft of Hemingway’s A Moveable Feast from a wealthy rare book dealer.
The manuscript is more than just a rare piece of literary history. It reveals a conspiracy wherein Hemingway will go to whatever lengths it takes to get published. If the suitcase is real the stories inside could be worth millions. Coop smells a bestseller and joins Milch and Grady in the search for the lost suitcase.
But they aren't the only ones with their eyes on the prize. The manuscript’s original owner has hired a bevy of desperadoes to track and retrieve it. What started as a hunt for a legendary writer’s lost works becomes a deadly adventure through a region that makes the Wild West look like Mayberry. It could be the book of a lifetime for Coop…if he lives long enough to write it.
